When Light Goes Off Blame Those In charge-Former Deputy Energy Minster Tells Ghanaians

A Former Deputy Minister of Energy, Collins Adomako Mensah, has dismissed reports of looming load shedding in Ghana’

According to him, the new government should focus on effective management of the electricity sector rather than flinging jargon.

The Co-Chairman of the Transition Team sub-committee on Energy and Natural Resources, John Jinapor, in an interview on Tuesday, January 7, accused the Akufo-Addo-led administration of leaving the power sector in crisis, which he claimed could lead to load shedding.

He said the country has only five hours’ worth of fuel left for power generation.

But speaking on National Agenda on Wednesday Hon. Adomako Mensah who is the member of parliament for Afigya Kwabre North refuted claims that Ghana’s fuel supply is precariously low, raising concerns about devastating power outages.

Hon. Adomako Mensah stressed that before leaving office, the Akufo-Addo administration ensured a reliable stock of fuel to power key plants.

‘John Jinapor is mistaken. Load shedding cannot ‘loom.’ we left office with adequate power, intermittent power problems can be caused by either technical or emergency power generation challenges, sometimes incompetent can also cause power problems but generally when we were leaving office the lights were on’ he stated

‘I am totally startled by John Jinapor’s assertions; he said we left fuel that would last for 5 hours, yet it has been 24 hours and we still have light.’ He told Oderfour host of the show

He further emphasized that maintaining a stable electricity supply now lies squarely in the hands of the new government.

As my minister said in his statement, Akufo-Addo left office in stock, light crude oil which Cenpower currently generates power with, whilst AKSA continues to take delivery of heavy fuel oil which it generates power with.

John Jinapor is now in control; if there is a problem in the energy industry, he must address it because the government has changed.
